A 1914 - 18 War medallion was recently
returned to Nannup resident John Nash.
John is a nephew of William Henry Nash of
Bridgetown. William was killed in ac• on
fi gh• ng for the 51st Ba• alion on the Western
Front at the Ba• le of Polygon Wood on 26th
September 1917. He was 19 years, 2 months
and 9 days old when he died. At the • me, the
medal along with two other medals of honour
were sent to William’s parents. Time passed
un• l one day in 1965, the medal was found
buried in a sandy backyard of a house in Maylands
by an 11 year old boy who had migrated to
Australia from England. The boy, now 65 years
old, decided 3 years ago to try and fi nd
the righ• ul rela• ve to return the medal to. He
contacted the Bridgetown Historical Society
who found a Phillip Nash on Facebook and with
further research, discovered that John Nash was
William Henry’s nephew. John was contacted by
the Bridgetown Historical Society in February 2019
and the medal was sent to him in due course.

Dear Lord,
I am ge•
ng on in
years
So may I make a plea,
Would you consider
for me,
A special place in
heaven?
You
see
I
have
children,
And
grandchildren
too!
They are very good
and kind,
I’m sure they will
make the grade,
So please, I have not
always
Been the best that I
could be,
But I will be so lonely,
If they were not with
me

Eriksen, displayed on
a rock by the waterside at the Langelinie promenade

statue is a Copenhagen icon and has been a major
tourist attraction since its unveiling in 1913.
