Dear Community,
Brunswick Junc• on, Boyanup and Donnybrook all have
weirs across their rivers without any apparent detrimental
eff ects on the water fl ow. Here in Nannup, we have the
Blackwood River which rarely stops fl owing. Apparently
the Waterways Commission (if it s• ll exists) has refused
to allow a weir on the river. However, they didn’t stop
the Avon River disaster, it was allowed to occur. Nothing
has been done to stop ca• le urina• ng, crapping and
destroying the river banks. Farmers should be given
incen• ves to fence off the river on their proper• es. An
ideal loca• on for a weir in Nannup would be at the rocks
by the old caravan park. A concrete structure including
a sluice gate could be constructed here. Overfl owing
water could scour out the swimming hole which exists at
present. The water could bank up in summer raising the
river level and allowing swimming and non-motorised
boa• ng by locals and tourists. In winter the sluice gates
could be opened allowing normal river fl ow to con• nue.
The river could be an asset for Nannup but it is sadly
neglected.
Yours Sincerely,
Colin Peter Brown.
Dear Community,
What magic was to be seen in “the disputed forest”
one evening before CHRISTMAS, though I might not
be suppor• ve of their views, I was delighted, simply
transported back to the magic of childhood, and for this
I sincerely thank you
for your vision & eff ort. And wish you all the best for
2019.
I look forward to the same next year.
Thank you
