Progress towards Bushfi re Centre of Excellence
The news that WA’s Bushfi re Centre of Excellence is closer to realisa" on has been welcomed by the state’s " mber
industry. The Government has today announced the centre will be established at a site in the Shire of Murray.
The Bushfi re Centre of Excellence is an important ini" a" ve for regional communi" es and the " mber industry, according
to Ac" ng CEO of the Forest Industries Federa" on of WA (FIFWA), Ma# Granger. “The current fi re risk around the state,
and the recent Lewana Fire in the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup, underscore the threat and reality of wild fi res,” Mr
Granger said. “Thankfully, no lives or homes were lost in the Lewana Fire, but it was a major setback to the so$ wood
planta" on
industry,” he said. “This is why a world-class hub for bushfi re science and research, along with training and technical
exper" se, is so important,” Mr Granger said.
