O
ur fi rst Boomerang Bag busy bee for 2019 was held
on February 13th and these three lovely volunteers
worked like a well-oiled machine to produce a heap of
fi nished bags that we can now distribute to the community.
For those of you who aren’t aware, the Boomerang Bag
project started early last year with a group of dedicated
volunteers coming together regularly to make fabric
shopping bags out of donated materials. The idea is to
replace single use plas• c bags in our community using
only recycled or unwanted materials, not a new idea by
any means but one that we’re happy to say, the community
has embraced.
If you’d like to be a part of this project, there are things
you can do if you’re not able to come to a busy bee. You
can donate fabric, pick up pre-cut fabric from the CRC to
sew into bags and make them at home or pick up a pa• ern
and make your own at home. If you’re good at stencilling,
you can come down to the CRC and stencil the Boomerang
Bag logo onto the pockets or if you’re not big on sewing,
you can cut fabric ready to be sewn into bags. We’ll let you
know when the next busy bee will be held and we hope to
see you all there.
