VacSwim
The National Drowning Report 2019 found people in regional
and remote areas are 2.3 times more likely to drown than
those in the metropolitan area.
Under the McGowan Government, costs for VacSwim have
increased by more than 120 percent, with Labor threatening
to remove programs from several regional communities with-
out consultation.
In a policy developed with the support of Royal Lifesaving WA,
the Nationals WA will make VacSwim free for children and
families in regional WA, and expand the program to more
locations if returned to Government next year.
Bushfire Preparedness
It would be amiss not to mention the devastation of the
bushfires in the Eastern States—with loss of lives, homes,
businesses and wildlife.
Drought and high fuel loads have significantly increased the
severity of these fires, causing massive losses.
These fires have affirmed my support for our prescribed burn-
ing program, designed to protect our regional communities.
It is a timely reminder not to be complacent about the risk of
bushfires—and to ensure we all have a plan in case of an
emergency. There is a wealth of information on the DFES
website—

Royal!es for Regions—where is it?
The Nationals flagship program—Royalties for Regions—has
been massively cut by the Labor Government. If it had been
spent as intended, this region could have seen investment in
vital youth mental health programs, support for volunteer
organisations and a myriad of community based projects that
build vibrancy and opportunities for growth. Royalties for
Regions is definitely worth fighting for!
